Rev. Virgil Reaves, Pastor

Pastor Virgil Hugh Reaves
First Missionary Baptist Church
Chadbourn, NC  28431

Reverend Virgil Hugh Reaves grew up in Brunswick County, NC, where he was one of eight children.  He is married to the lovely, gracious, and spiritual Phyllis, and they have one son, Devyn. Rev. Reaves and First Lady Phyllis Reaves reside in Fayetteville, NC.  Devyn is in the US Navy on deployment in Greece.

At an early age, Rev. Reaves gave his life to Christ at Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Sunset Beach, NC.  He graduated from West Brunswick High School in Shallotte, NC.  Rev. Reaves is also a proud graduate of Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, where he received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Political Science with a concentration in Police Science.  He later attended Shaw University Divinity School, Raleigh, NC working towards a Master of Divinity Degree.

Rev. Reaves previously worked as a Law Enforcement Officer in both South Carolina and North Carolina.  He is currently employed by Cumberland County Schools as a Safe Schools Coordinator at Westover High School, Fayetteville.

At Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Fayetteville, Rev. Reaves was called into the Ministry in April 1995.  In August of that same year he was ordained and received his first Pastoral position at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Fayetteville.  Rev. Reaves has twenty (20) years of Pastoral ministry having pastored four different churches over the years.  He is a former Executive Board Member of the Kenansville Eastern Missionary Baptist Association (KEMBA), Kenansville, NC.

After a fifteen (15) month search, First Missionary Baptist Church prayerfully chose Rev. Reaves as its Pastor on October 27, 2014.  On December 28, 2014 Rev. Dr. John D. Fuller, Sr., Senior Pastor of Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (and spiritual father to Rev. Reaves), installed Rev. Reaves as Pastor.  During his first year at First Missionary, Pastor Reaves has been an extremely stong proponent of the missionary department and its local district, and state-wide activities and events.  Increased attendance at Sunday School and weekly Prayer Service/Bible Study is evident.  Over this past year, Pastor Reaves has increased the church's active membership by leading over twenty-six (26) new souls to Christ!  He also has a great fondness for children, and he is actively involved with the local schools.

Pastor Reaves is frequently invited by other Pastors to speak at their revivals, church anniversaries, and associational conferences.  He loves to preach, and he practices what he preaches!  Pastor Reaves was recently elected Vice President of the Chadbourn Fellowship Alliance, Vice President of the Columbus-Bladen Missionary Union, and Parliamentarian of the Lumber River Missionary Baptist Association.

Pastor Reaves believes that God can use anyone for kingdom building and that kingdom building requires a faith walk with God.  To God be the Glory!
